We’re constantly on the lookout for innovative ways to code projects in a timely and economically conservative manner.
As part of this process our team decided to experiment with the Ionic framework, an open source mobile SDK for developing native and progressive web apps, to develop Church Finder for iOS and Android devices.
In just one week, our team was able to code a simple, yet elegant mobile app that helps people find churches and cathedrals nearby, including church profiles with pictures, reviews, and dynamic links to all necessary information!
We quickly rose to the top of the search result list when searching for “church finder” on the iOS App Store, and have localized the metadata and store listing for all 28 available languages.
The Church Finder list is powered by Google, and utilizes their listings for churches and cathedrals. By default, the Church Finder list is sorted by the most ‘Prominent’ near you.
A church’s ‘Prominence’ is determined by a variety of factors, including online search traffic, links to the church’s website, number of Google reviews, and more factors described here.
A simple tap allows you to sort your list by Distance instead, or you can use the search bar to look for a particular church you have in mind! You can also view churches on a map view by tapping the Map button on the bottom navigation bar. However, Church Finder is not limited to just finding churches.
You can also read a daily Bible verse by tapping the Verse tab on the bottom navigation bar. Want to read more than just one verse? You can always tap the ‘Get New Verse’ button to instantly generate a new random verse!
While Church Finder is much more simplistic than our first location based project Yule Nightlife, it also works very smoothly and has a clean, fresh design that is fun and easy to use.
The Church Finder experiment has further proven that our design, branding, App Store Optimization (ASO), keyword search, and localization strategies are top notch. The
